Karla grew up dancing in Williams Lake, BC with Maureen Saunders School of Dance. She was trained in the Cecchetti Ballet method and took Cecchetti Ballet Exams throughout elementary and high school. Karla also took jazz and pointe and performed in a year end show every other year. She and fellow dancers performed at many community events, including the BC Winter Games Opening Ceremony and the BC Indoor Rodeo. Karla went onto university and continued dancing ballet, jazz, & pointe recreationally there. She also tried out hip hop and breakdancing classes! Karla took four years of Ballroom and Latin Dancing with the UBC Ballroom Dance Club. Karla graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education specializing in EAL (English as an Additional Language) and moved to Fernie. Here she began teaching Grade 5 and after 7 years moved to teaching high school History. Karla began teaching dance classes in January 2012, slowly growing the number of students and amount of classes. Also slowly adding in ADAPT Jazz & Tap Exams, Competitions and Festival, and RAD Ballet Exams to help to round out her students. Karla became certified in ADAPT (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers) in 2013 and has been putting students in ADAPT Jazz & Tap Exams since 2014. Karla became certified in RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) in 2019 through the CBTS Programme (Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies) and is looking forward to being able to put students into RAD Ballet Exams! Karla is always looking for ways to grow her studio and to provide the best experience for her students. This includes taking courses to become more knowledgeable, as well as offering a greater range of classes.
